Teacher Biography
Hello, my name is Annabel Negrete, I teach Transitional Kindergarten at Shiloh Elementary.
I received my BA and Credential from CSU Monterey Bay. I find every opportunity to advance my knowledge and teaching abilities through trainings, readings, and courses.
I started at Shiloh Elementary in 2020 teaching second grade and in 2023 started teaching TK. I previously taught one year of Kindergarten at a Dual Language before moving to the area.
I love spending time with my family, going to the beach, enjoying music, reading, & coffee!
There is a lot I love about teaching; it keeps me constantly learning and challenging myself, and I get to be a part of students growing by building their confidence and educational path. I am always looking for opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills to best teach my students.
Classroom Information:
We will spend a lot of time focusing on foundational skills for academic, fine/gross motor, and social development. The beginning of the year in reading will largely focus on learning letter names and sounds. We will learn to blend letter names and sounds together through our reading curriculum as well as expand vocabulary through complete responses among other strategies. In math, we will work on counting objects up to 10, identifying numbers 0-20, counting to 30, and adding and subtracting within 10. Our report card is standards-based, which means it will track progress throughout the year. TK is a lot of fun, but there is also a lot of learning happening in preparation for a strong start in Kindergarten. I believe TK is an important opportunity for student success and is even more beneficial through consistency, interactive approaches, and family/teacher communication and support.
Creating a well-structured schedule for transitional kindergarten (TK) is essential for fostering a balanced and enriching learning environment. The day begins with a Soft Start from 8:15 to 8:50, allowing students to settle in with attendance, announcements, activities, and a morning meeting. Phonics, from 8:50 to 9:10, focuses on ABC name and sound practice, along with a letter of the week. Art is scheduled on Tuesdays from 8:30 to 9:15, providing a creative outlet. Number Corner follows from 9:10 to 9:30, incorporating calendar activities and fluency exercises. A brief student-focused activity from 9:30 to 9:45 precedes recess at 9:45. Reading Mastery takes place from 10:00 to 11:20, followed by lunch from 11:20 to 12:05. After lunch, students have a rest time from 12:10 to 12:40. On minimum days, science is taught from 12:05 to 12:55, with dismissal at 1:00 pm. Physical education occurs from 12:40 to 1:00, followed by a math lesson from 1:00 to 1:30. Centers are scheduled from 1:30 to 1:45, offering skill practice and exploration in various subjects. The day winds down with free play from 1:45 to 2:00, and a wrap-up session from 2:00 to 2:10 to clean up, pack up, and check out, with dismissal at 2:10. This schedule ensures a comprehensive and engaging educational experience for young learners.
